Gringo 40s 28mm Vietnam Special Forces Figures - Review

Image
Gringo 40s 28mm Vietnam  SOG - Excellent Service About two weeks ago I put in an order for a variety of MACV SOG figures from Gringo 40s in the UK. They were shipped within a few days and arrived at my door within six days! They were packaged very well which I deeply appreciate. The figures are simply incredible. The detail is excellent, next to no flash, and no mold lines, so I just had to glue them to bases after I opened the figures. I prime black and then do a dry brush in white for a zenithal effect and here is what they look like after the white brings out the details. I can't wait to finish them! I will be ordering again and I highly recommend Gringo's Vietnam range.

Crossfire! A Meeting Engagement in Normandy

Image
Crossfire in Normandy Ran a game of Crossfire! Josh Atchley, Benjamin Earnest, Chris Bark, and I put on our second game, but it was the first for Chris. Somewhere in Normandy in late June, an armor-supported U.S. infantry battalion clashed with an armor-supported German infantry battalion. Last time we played with a lot of my toys, so we had Josh and Ben break out their FOW collections for the game and I filled out some odds and ends with my own figures. This was a large table, so all of us brought all of the western European terrain we could, and I need to make even more!  For those of you who don't know, Crossfire! needs a lot of terrain because it does not use tape measures. Most of the time you move from terrain piece to terrain piece, but you can move a stand/platoon continuously as long as you don't lose the initiative. If you want to see a review of Crossfire!, I recommend watching the Little Wars YouTube Channel for their latest video . We did the meeting engagement s

Five Core 3rd Edition: Skirmish Gaming Evolved Period(s) : 20th century, modern, future.  Publisher : Nordic Weasel Games Where can I find it : www.wargamesvault.com  Cost : PDF $14.95 The Skinny Complexity : 5/10  Rating : 4/5 - Excellent despite its flaws In one sentence : A very innovative set of rules which is only slightly let down by the writing and layout of the book. Overview Five Core 3rd edition is the latest edition of the Five Core system. It is usable for any man-to-man combat in the 20th and 21st centuries as well as any science fiction setting. I have personally used the WWII version, Five Men at Kursk  to game WWII, but you can totally do WWII with this set, but you would be missing out on some of the particular details. The game is quite innovative and rewards proper small-unit tactics to win. You need to suppress the enemy and outflank their positions which will force them to fall back or risk being annihilated. It covers all the weapon types you would want, inc

Modeling and Painting Vietnam Wargames – A review

Image
I am always on the lookout for modeling content covering periods I play, but one of my favorite periods, the Vietnam War from 1965-1975, has not seen a comprehensive modeling book. However, I have finally found the perfect book: Modeling and Painting Vietnam Wargames by Michael Farnworth and published by Military Miniature Press. I purchased this book before launch, and the publisher kindly gave me the PDF a little early to publish a review. As the author Michael Farnworth notes, the Vietnam War is experiencing a bit of a renaissance in wargaming today. I personally play in 20mm and 15mm, but there is an increasing number of options available (especially in 28mm) that indicate a resurgence of gaming the period. Modeling and Painting Vietnam Wargames is an incredible resource for players interested in gaming the Vietnam War or the war in French Indochina. Even gamers with a current collection can glean valuable information and inspiration from this book. The book is incredibly wel
